Q. Are there any extra charges for HPO members to use Web Mail?
A. No, WebMail is a free service offered to HPO members. This service is offered on an "as is bases", there is no guarantee that you will be able to access it 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Q. Is WebMail meant to replace may regular email program?
A. No, WebMail was designed to be used when you are not at your regular computer but need to pick-up or send email.

Q. I'm traveling around the world for two months, can I use WebMail while I'm in Nepal?
A. Yes, as long as you can get access to the Internet you can use WebMail to pick up and send email from anywhere in the world.

Q. Do I need to make any special settings to access WebMail from Nepal?
A. No, the only thing that is require is the ability to access the Internet and to see home pages. Once you have access to the Internet, just type http://www.hpo.net  in the web browser then click on the WebMail button or go directly to http://webmail.hpo.net

Q. How can I make WebMail load in my browser faster?
A. Be sure to keep a minimal amount of email in your mailbox. WebMail must copy your email over from the mail server to the WebMail server so the more mail you have in your box longer it will take to access it. If you have a slow connection and have a few Mb. of mail, it could get to the point that you cannot access your email because your web browser connection will time out before all the mail is copied from one server to the other. I strongly suggest deleting all unnecessary mail (Junk mail, mailing lists etc,.) right away then download your email with a regular email program as soon as you get a chance.

Q. Why was I unable to send my email message after spending a considerable amount of time typing it up online?
A. There is a time limit on WebMail, if you are inactive for too long you will get timed out (typing is considered to be inactive).

Q. I don't think that I was timed out. I type a very short message then clicked the Send button but nothing happened. Why didn't my message get  sent?
A. WebMail uses something called JavaScript to function as a program on the Internet. The browser you are using must have JavaScript enabled or it will not function.

Q. What is the best way to prepare long email messages to send through WebMail.
A. The best approach is to prepare all your messages in your word processor beforehand. Then copy and paste them into WebMail after you go on line. That way, you avoid expensive phone bills and don't have to worry about WebMail timing you out.

Q. Can I pick up a copy of my email with my regular email program after  checking my account with WebMail?
A. Yes, WebMail does not delete your email after you read it unless you deliberately delete it yourself. This is a very useful feature. For example, you can check your email using WebMail from your office then pick up a copy from your computer after you get home at night.

Q. Can WebMail handle Japanese Kanji?
A. WebMail was designed for use in English. I have made some modifications to the program in an effort to make it Kanji capable. However, it is very unreliable so I will have to say it doesn't really support Kanji at this time.

Q. I'm on the road and really need to read some messages that were sent to me in Japanese, what can I do?
A. Please use our Japanese version of the WebMail http://jmail.hpo.net be sure to double check that the Character Set in the WebMail Preferences are set to "EUC-JP (Japanese)". Of course the computer you are viewing the email with must be Japanese compatible or the Kanji Fonts will just appear broken.

Q. What is the difference between my UserID and UserName?
A. HPO uses these interchangeably, they are in fact the same.

@

Q. What should I enter in the UserID field?
A. You should enter your UserID (UserName) or your email address in this field, entering anything else, such as your real name will result in a "Login Failure". Keep in mind that the UserID and Password are case sensitive, you must enter them exactly as stated on the set-up  information you received from HPO.

@

Q. I entered my UserID and Password, why am I still getting the "Login Failure" message?
A. Your UserID and Password and case sensitive. Although you can see our UserID, the Password will always show up as black dots. Double check your original documents that you received from HPO to confirm your UserID and Password. Then type them very carefully making sure to enter them in upper and lower case as need.

Q. I have been very careful about entering my UserID and Password. I have actually copied and pasted my Password from Notepad to make sure it was right but still can not login, what now?
A. There are some rare cases that Web Mail will reject your login due to security reasons. WebMail will always do what is called a reverse IP address look-up before it allows anyone to login. If the reverse IP address look-up fails, your login will be rejected. This will happen in some cases if you are trying to access WebMail from behind a firewall in your company, WebMail cannot confirm your IP Address as it cannot see beyond your company's firewall, therefore the logon fails.

@

Q. This doesn't seem to be my problem. When I go to the WebMail page I only see a blue screen, no login field. What's up?
A. You must have JavaScript activated in the browser you are using or you will not see the page. Activate JavaScript or try accessing it with a different browser.

@

Q. Well, I can't login, what should I do now?
A. Try access our alternate WebMail system http://jmail.hpo.net

Q. Is there any way I can use my regular email program while I am traveling?
A. Yes, follow the instructions on this page to set-up the email program.
