Internet Explorer 3.0 Set-up

* If you have a pre-version 3.0, upgrade it right away. It is outdated and has may deficiencies, we recommend Netscape 3.0 or later 

1.0 Double click on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop (your computer screen) to start your browser.  A screen will most likely appear giving you an error message. Just ignore the message for now and click OK or Cancel to get ride of it. 

1.2 You should now see a new program like the one below, this is the program you will use for surfing the Internet.

1.3 Click on the View menu, select Options then release the mouse.

Click on the Navigation tab along the top to bring it to the front. Delete anything in the Address field then enter http://hpo.net/links.html then click on the Apply button at the bottom right. Click OK.

1.5 We will now set up your Address field. This is one place to put the address to search for a home page on the Internet. Between the Address and Links you will see two bars. Click on these bars and hold down your mouse. The cursor will change, now drag to the right continuing to hold down the mouse.

1.6 As you drag to the right the Links bar will move with you. Drag until only the title Links is visible at the far right and the Address extends as shown below. After connecting to the Internet you can now click on the field next to the Address: and enter an address such as http://www.yahoo.com, hit return and that home page will open.

1.7 If you have set everything up as described, the following window will appear when you connect to Hunter Point Online. This is what we call a links page. It is a good place to start if you are not to familiar with the Internet. Choose a subject you are interested in and click on any of the titles listed in that list. This is called a link and will take you to that home page. For example, if you are interested in the news you could look under the title news, click on CNN then CNN's home page will open in your browser.
