Persecution of Atheists also in Austria,
written to the Japan Times on Oct. 3, 1989, ignored:
To the Editor:
Readers of this paper will know from previous letters that church critics are persecuted in West Germany under section 166 CC. What section 166 CC. is for us in Germany is section 188 CC. for our neighbor Austria. Although there are other countries in the West where human rights and the freedom of expression are ignored when they colide with the interests of the church, today I will concentrate on Austria.
This Catholic country has already a record of persecutions under section 188 thus people were persecuted for showing a promotional poster for an anti-clerical event that showed a priest manipulating a little god puppet and the journalist Wolfgang Beyer even received a one month prison sentence at first instance for a satirical article he wrote on the occasion of Mr. Wojtila's visit to Vienna. The appellate court fined him 60 day rates.
But I want to describe a case that is up for conviction soon. Nov. 30th 1988 the police - probably mobilized by a Christian - seized a poster that was not ment for publication but for private use from the back seat of a car in Perg.
The subsequently supplied judicial justification spoke about the `scenes shown ...' showing that the judge didn't even know the poster that didn't show anything but had only the following text written on it: "Did Jesus have a penis? A fictitious inquiry among prominent persons. Hrdlicka (a famous sculptor): Why shouldn't he have none? Archbishop Goer: What is a penis? Suffragan bishop Kronn: My heart is pure, my penis is small. Waldheim: I do not remember. Saint Mary: At birth everything was still attached. Mary Magdalene: Erect like a cross." etc.
I agree with readers that it shows bad taste to bring a torture instrument like the cross into connection with the pleasurable penis. It is blasphemy to non-celibates. There were some more answers typed on the incriminated paper,c, the text ended with: "Staberl (a conservative politician): Typical left radical delusion."
The church reacts very sensitively to satire because the nonsense of its teaching invites to satire, as the clerics and to their distress even their sheep know very well. The Catholic church for example cares so much about its founder's foreskin that there are `brotherhoods of the holy foreskin', 'chaplains of the foreskin', processions to the honour of the foreskin and worldwide there are 13 foreskins recognized by the Vatican as genuine.
Anyone who wants to worship a foreskin should write me. Against a small donation to the anti-clerical collection-bag, I'll provide the place-names.
The authors of the incriminated poster should
have asked: Did Jesus have 13 penises? 13 penises are much more
befitting for the super-monster the church created out of this
poor carpenter.
